Just about every spring semester, Harper School Fashion Style and design pupils develop a “senior collection” as their capstone job. This calendar year, just one of

and some further time on her arms, she assumed it would be exciting to just take a stitching class
at Harper. She received hooked.

“I signed up for the newbie sewing class,” stated Dawn, 66. “I relished it so significantly,
I just retained likely with it.”

3 decades (and numerous manner courses) later, Dawn has been operating to place the ending
touches on her style collection for the Trend Layout Studio class. It is the end result
of recently acquired techniques, a history in sewing and an educational journey she didn’t
comprehend she was commencing with that first course.

Dawn EmrathDawn is thrilled about viewing her assortment stroll the runway at Harper’s Student Fashion Clearly show – Enigma, 1 and 8 p.m. Friday, Might 20, in the Carrying out Arts Heart. She talked about the collection

a ton of quilting and I have been quilting for a lengthy time. And I developed some prints,
which I experienced in no way done ahead of.”

on-campus display at the close of the educational calendar year. Owing to COVID-19 basic safety protocols,
the once-a-year exhibit (led by Manner Merchandising pupils) went digital in 2020 and 2021. Nupur Sharma, associate professor and program
coordinator for the office, is thrilled to carry the electricity of a live function again
to Harper.

“It’s not only the electricity throughout the effectiveness, but top up to that. It is the
time when the department arrives jointly – the lecturers, the Style Structure college students

pleased with the stage of manner I was looking at,” Julia mentioned. “Once my kids went to college,
it was time to do anything for myself.”

Currently, Julia’s been generating an outerwear selection that mixes fur, knitwear and
leather-based whilst becoming influenced by Japanese structure and surrealism. Like Dawn, she just can’t
wait for her relatives and good friends to come see her do the job in the display.
