A budgeting TikTok star has revealed his major hacks for understanding the different price codes at Costco.
Amin Shaykho has amassed over half a million followers thanks to all his money-saving tricks and shopping hacks.
In one of his most recent videos, he filmed himself walking through Costco explaining the secret meaning to all of its price tags.
For example, he explains that all clearance items in the store are usually priced with ‘.97’ at the end,
‘If the price ends in .39, .49. or .79 it is a manufacturer’s special,’ he said.
Amin Shaykho explains a Costco product that is discounted will usually end in ‘.97.’ The store does not advertise when a product has been marked down
‘Regular prices end in .99. Manager markdowns end in .00 and an asterisk means items won’t be restocked.’
Since it was first posted on Sunday, the video has attracted over 134, 600 views.
On his website, Shaykho expands further, explaining that Costco does not put bright stickers on its products to show they have been discounted.
The store also does not write the original price of a product or signal that it has been discounted in any way.
He wrote: ‘You have to spot the ‘7’ or ’00’ ending and from there, figure out how good a deal it is.
‘The markdown could be 10% or as high as 80%. It won’t reveal the original Costco price or the reduction amount.
‘You’ll commonly find the .97 tag on non-Kirkland brand items, and a quick check with your Target or Amazon app can help you gauge the discount.’
Costco will use green price tags for organic products – while white labels for those that are non-organic
What’s more, he explains that Costco will use green price tags for organic products – while white labels for those that are non-organic.
Shaykho frequently goes viral for his money-saving tips.
Back in May, he revealed how customers could understand Target’s ‘secret markdown schedule’ – which he insists is the same every week.
For example, on Monday Shaykho claims the store offers discounts on electronics and baby and children’s items.
On Tuesday, women’s clothing, pets and food are usually marked down while health, beauty, men’s clothing and furniture are discounted on Wednesdays.
Meanwhile Fridays see auto, cosmetics, hardware and jewelry placed on sale.
Shaykho did not say what is discounted on Thursdays. However other reports suggest it is housewares, lingerie, shoes, toys, sporting goods, decor & luggage.
